UNIT 4: HEALTH AND WELLNESS
My name‿ is Helen. Two years‿ ago a doctor‿ advised me to cut down‿ on sugar,│ and‿ I discovered that the hardes(t) part‿ of changing my diet was not hunger but confusion.
Nutrition‿ advice contradicts‿ itself‿ every few years. Eggs were dangerous,│ then they were‿ excellent. Fat was the enemy,│ then sugar was. What the research‿ is consistent‿ about‿ is less dramatic:│ processed food with long lists‿ of‿ additives correlates with‿ obesity,│ an(d) portion size has grown‿ everywhere. Almos(t) nothing‿ on‿ a label‿ is designed to inform me;│ it‿ is designed to reassure me. So I stopped reading claims‿ an(d) started reading‿ ingredien(t) lists,│ and‿ if‿ a produc(t) has more than five,│ I usually put itpudit back.
I am not restrictive‿ any more. I cook‿ at home four times‿ a week,│ I eat vegetables with‿ every meal,│ and‿ I do not believe that one pizza can‿ undo a month‿ of sensible‿ eatingea-ding. Crash diets fail│ because they are not sustainable,│ an(d) my appetite‿ is not‿ a moral failing. If‿ I want towanna change something for good,│ it has tohasta survive‿ a birthday partypar-dy and‿ a bad week‿ at work.
