UNIT 1: FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIPS
My name‿ is Kevin. I have used dating‿ apps,│ and‿ I stopped,│ not because they do not work,│ but because they encourage you to judge people by criteria that say very littleli-dle‿ about‿ a long-term relationship.
On‿ an‿ app,│ you are shown‿ a photograph,│ an‿ age,│ a job,│ an(d) two sentences. There‿ is chemistry in the messages,│ certainly,│ and‿ I met some‿ interesting people. However,│ the format rewards superficial confidence,│ and‿ it punishes‿ anybody│ who is shy or vulnerable. My cousin,│ who is‿ a quieter person than me,│ had‿ almos(t) no matches‿ an(d) concluded│ that he was‿ unattractive. That conclusion was built‿ on‿ a sorting mechanism,│ not‿ on the truth.
What‿ I have learned from two serious relationships‿ is that compatibility develops late. You cannot know│ whether you are compatible│ until you have been bored together,│ argued,│ an(d) paid‿ a bill. If‿ I were giving‿ advice,│ I would say:│ take‿ it slowly,│ an(d) judge the person by how they behave│ when they are tired. Love may begin with chemistry,│ but‿ a sustainable relationship‿ is built‿ on something more‿ ordinary,│ an(d) settling down with the wrong person│ because the firs(t) three months fel(t) wonderful‿ is‿ a mistake many people make.
