UNIT 8: MONEY AND FINANCE
My name‿ is Rita,│ an(d) my husban(d) buys one lottery ticket‿ every Friday. He has never won more than ten dollars,│ an(d) he knows the chance‿ of‿ a jackpot‿ is‿ almos(t) zero,│ but he says‿ it‿ is cheaper than two coffees‿ an(d) much more‿ exciting.
We have both thought‿ about what we would do. I would give‿ away a par(t) to my sister's children,│ because they need‿ it,│ and‿ I would be generous with my parents. I would not spen(d) recklessly,│ and‿ I would not tell‿ everybody in the street. Winners who lose‿ everything usually do exactly that:│ a new car,│ a big house,│ twentytwen-dy friends,│ an(d) no advice.
The truth‿ is│ that we would probably manage money badly at the beginning,│ because nobody teaches‿ us how to deal with‿ a fortune. If‿ it happened,│ I would keep working for‿ a year,│ buy nothing for three months,│ an(d) pay somebody to help‿ us. My husban(d) says he would buy a boat,│ although he gets seasick‿ on‿ a ferry. So perhaps‿ it‿ is lucky│ that we have never won. We are not rich,│ but we have what we need.
