UNIT 7: SPORTS
My name‿ is Julia,│ an(d) my son‿ is nine. He has two training sessions‿ a week‿ an(d) one match‿ at the weekend,│ an(d) he loves‿ it. He is not the bes(t) player‿ in the team,│ but he has become much more confident│ since he started.
His coach‿ is careful with the children. He says,│ "Take part,│ enjoy the game,│ an(d) forget the score." Unfortunately,│ not‿ every parent‿ agrees. Las(t) season,│ a father shouted‿ at his son for the whole match,│ an(d) the boy dropped‿ out‿ in March. I understan(d) that parents wan(t) the bes(t) for their children,│ but pushing‿ a nine-year-ol(d) towards‿ a professional career‿ is‿ a good way to make sure he never plays‿ again for pleasure.
The other problem‿ is the timetable. Between school,│ homework,│ an(d) two sports clubs,│ my son has three free afternoons‿ a week,│ an(d) he is‿ only nine. My daughterdau-der swims‿ on Wednesdays‿ an(d) does nothing‿ else. Some children burn‿ out│ before they are fifteen. If‿ a chil(d) wants to stop,│ I think parents should let them,│ at leas(t) for one season.
