UNIT 7: SPORTS
My name‿ is Hank,│ and‿ in my country football‿ is‿ almost‿ a religion. Every weekend,│ the whole country stops to watch the matches,│ an(d) the stadiums‿ of the two big clubs‿ are full‿ all season.
I suppor(t) the smaller club‿ in my cityci-dy. My son supports‿ its rival,│ which makes dinner‿ interesting. Las(t) month,│ I bought‿ a season ticket for the firs(t) time‿ in my life,│ an(d) we watched‿ a match that finished 3-3. The referee made two terrible decisions,│ so half the stadium shouted‿ at (h)im. My wife watched basketball‿ instead,│ because‿ a game lasts fortyfor-dy minutes│ an(d) there‿ are no 0-0 results.
What‿ I like‿ about spor(t) here‿ is│ that‿ it‿ is not‿ only for professionals. In my street there‿ is‿ an‿ amateur team‿ of men‿ aged fortyfor-dy,│ an(d) they play every Tuesday. My daughterdau-der plays volleyball‿ at school,│ an(d) my mother‿ is‿ a fan‿ of the women's national team. If you want towanna understand‿ a country,│ do not read‿ about‿ its politics. Go to a stadium‿ an(d) listen.
