Leadership‿ in the workplace

My name‿ is Tina,│ and‿ I have been‿ in charge‿ of‿ a small team for two years. When‿ I got the job,│ three of my colleagues became my staff,│ an(d) the firs(t) month was terrible. I wanted^wan-did to be everybody's friend,│ an(d) nobody knew│ who was responsible for‿ anything.

Then‿ I changed my approach. Before‿ I make‿ a decision,│ I ask the team,│ but I^{bud I} make the final call myself,│ and‿ I take responsibility for‿ it. I try to delegate‿ as much‿ as possible,│ because‿ a manager│ who does‿ all the work‿ is not‿ a manager. Every Friday,│ I give feedback to each person:│ one thing that wen(t) well‿ an(d) one goal for nex(t) week. I praise‿ in public‿ an(d) correct‿ in private,│ and‿ I never blame‿ anybody in front‿ of the others.

That builds team spirit,│ and‿ it‿ also brings results:│ our numbers have grown for six quarters. However,│ I have made mistakes. Las(t) year‿ I promoted the wrong person,│ and‿ I had to^hadda explain‿ it to everybody. A good leader‿ is not somebody│ who never fails;│ it‿ is somebody│ who fails‿ an(d) then says,│ "This was my decision."
