UNIT 4: HEALTH AND WELLNESS
My name‿ is‿ Anna,│ an(d) when‿ I was‿ ill‿ as‿ a child,│ my grandmother never took me to a doctor for the firs(t) two days. She had‿ a remedy for‿ everything:│ honey an(d) lemon for‿ a sore throat,│ hot milk for‿ a cough,│ and‿ a wet cloth for‿ a headache.
Some‿ of her‿ ideas were sensible,│ an(d) some were‿ only ol(d) family stories. When my son has‿ a col(d) now,│ I give (h)im herbal tea an(d) honey,│ an(d) he usually feels betterbe-der‿ in‿ a day. But when he had‿ a temperature‿ of 39 for two nights,│ I took (h)im to the hospital‿ immediately. A painkiller cannot cure‿ an‿ infection,│ an(d) my grandmother's‿ advice would not have helped.
I think the truth‿ is‿ in the middle. Tea with honey is probably good for the throat,│ and‿ it costs nothing. However,│ if‿ a symptom does not go away in three days,│ you need‿ a doctor. I also always read the side‿ effects│ before‿ I take‿ anything. Home remedies can preven(t) small problems,│ but they cannot replace medicine.
